350 Austin Reading Group – 5/28/2019

May 28, 2019 @ 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm at Cepeda Branch Library
651 N Pleasant Valley Rd
Austin, TX 78702

Join us for a lively, stimulating, and often deep discussion with some really interesting people!

Sometimes I wonder if we should rename this group “The Guardian article discussion group”. The British daily newspaper The Guardian has become the world’s premier source of influential articles on climate change. Even American journalists such as Bill Moyers are getting their voice heard through The Guardian. At this month’s 350 reading group meeting, we will discuss two of the many articles on climate change that were published by The Guardian in just the past week.
Of course, you can come without doing any of this reading just to enjoy the discussion. I will summarize the main arguments in the articles for everyone – but the articles aren’t that long and are well worth the read.

Bill McKibben (creator of 350.org) responds to Dianne Feinstein’s encounter with young people confronting her about her decision not to support the Green New Deal. Lots of great food for discussion here:

Here’s a short little article about some very surprising polling on the support for the Green New Deal. You really need to check out the polling data on Republican attitudes – and be prepared for an amazing surprise!

Finally, does the Green New Deal open the door for moderate Republicans to propose their own climate solutions?
